Kohima, July 17 (MExN): In sync with the National policy to encourage rain water harvesting, HQ 5 Sector Assam Rifles located in South Nagaland has executed a unique water harvesting scheme storing 8 lakh liters of water within its premises in large LDPE lined reservoirs.

Lt Col, L Vincent Patton, PRO, HQ IGAR (N) in a press release stated that this project, created with very little resources has effectively mitigated the water scarcity in the garrison and in addition, has obviated daily movement of 6 water tankers to ferry water from a water point 30 km away thereby saving transport, manpower, fuel and water charges.

He mentioned that this will not only enhance eco friendly living but also accrue an annual saving of Rs 20 lakh per annum to the Government. He stated that the reservoirs were excavated within house resources and lined with special sheets sourced from Gujarat, water runoff from rooftops and open spaces has been channelized to feed the reservoirs.

The release added that the entire project from concept to creation took merely 60 days and was today capable of not only supporting the 2000 strong Chieswema Garrison but also the adjoining Tsisema Basa Village.
