Kohima, August 29 (MExN): 15 Assam Rifles and 28 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) organised lectures to create awareness on Amur Falcons at Government Primary School, ‘C’ Saddle and Government Higher Secondary School, Chukitong respectively on August 28. At GPS, ‘C’ Saddle village in Tuensang, the lecture aimed to make youth aware about Amur Falcons and how they help in assisting wildlife conservation, stated a press release from PRO, HQ IGAR (N). It was also reiterated that since Nagaland has been recognised as the Falcon capital of the world, it becomes “our” responsibility to preserve and protect the species.
Altogether 60 students and teachers attended the programme. A total of 52 students participated in the programme at Government Higher Secondary School, Chukitong of Wokha district. 28 AR took the initiative of working with the people of Wokha district to preserve and highlight the significance of one of the world’s longest distance migratory birds, the Amur Falcons, which come to roost at Doyang reservoir every year during their flight from Mongolia to South Africa region, another press release said. It was pointed out that massive drive by the village councils, local NGOs and other concerned stakeholders has led to awareness on protecting the birds among the people, but there is a lot to be achieved. The next generation needs to be taught on the importance of wildlife, it asserted.
5 Assam Rifles organise friendly volleyball match
5 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters IGAR (North) organised a ‘Friendly Volleyball Match’ with the youths of Sitemi village under the motto ‘Drug Free Nagaland’ on August 28.
The match was organised to extend an opportunity to the locals to showcase their talent in sports, provide motivation to talented players and inspire the youth to lead drug free healthy life, said a separate press release from AR. The match was played between team of local youths of the village and troops of 5 Assam Rifles. It concluded with distribution of prizes and informal interaction.
