AR makes several arrest

Kohima, August 23 (MExN): Assam Rifles battalions under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) have apprehended four people from different places of Nagaland.  

A GPRN/NSCN cadre was apprehended during an operation launched by 36 Assam Rifles along with police representative in Padampukhuri, Dimapur on August 21. One .32 mm pistol with magazine, two live rounds of 9 mm and one No 36 hand grenade were recovered from him, according to a press release from Lt Col Amitabh Sharma, PRO, HQ IGAR (North). Identified as Akhato Katty (38), the individual revealed of being a civil wing cadre of GPRN/NSCN and “was actively involved in extortion and tax collection in Dimapur town and adjoining areas,” the release alleged. He along with the recovered items was handed over to East Police Station, Dimapur for further investigation.  

Meanwhile, troops of 36 Assam Rifles apprehended an individual along with one live Chinese hand grenade, 32 live rounds of assorted ammunitions, eight fired cases and other “warlike stores” and Rs. 43,000/- in old currency notes of Rs. 500 denomination, the PRO said in another press release. The individual identified as Vikuto Chopy was apprehended in a search operation conducted along with police representative at Thilixu village on August 20. The apprehended person along with recovered items was handed over to Diphupar Police Station for further investigation.  

In a separate incident, 36 Assam Rifles along with police representative launched a search operation in Pellhang village of Peren district on August 19 and apprehended an individual along with one 7.65 mm M-21 rifle and six live rounds of 7.65 mm, informed the PRO, HQ IGAR (North). The individual identified as Prem Bahadur Pradhan (37) along with the recovered arms and ammunition was handed over to Athibung Police Station for further investigation, it added.  

5 Assam Rifles troops also apprehended Captain Vinato Assumi (35) of NSCN (K) during a search operation at Alahuto colony in Zunheboto on August 16, the PRO said. Vinato was handed over to Zunheboto Police Station for further investigation.  

36 Assam Rifles recovered 1147 bottles of illegal IMFL worth around Rs 1.00 lakh at a Mobile Vehicle Check Post on Jharnapani–Jalukie Road, Peren district on August 22. Four people were apprehended in this connection. They have been identified as Abu Zeliang, Kedat, Samzuie, and Lpiya Zeliang. All individuals revealed that they were involved in smuggling of illegal liquor from Dimapur to Jalukie, according to the PRO, HQ IGAR. The individuals along with the recovered IMFL were handed over to Jalukie Police Station for further investigation.
