The Archbishop of Shillong Archdiocese, Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh has expressed concern on the Umoid assault of Wednesday and has supported the decision of the St Xavier's Higher Secondary School to suspend all classes until the matter is resolved.

In a statement issued in Shillong on Monday, the Archbishop said that the “unprovoked brutal attack on innocent workers” resulting in the loss of a precious life and leaving many others seriously injured is condemnable.

He has also extended solidarity with the family members of the deceased worker, late Raju Mondal and to all those who are injured.

“The decision to set up an educational institution in South West Khasi Hills district has been taken keeping in mind the urgent need for providing quality higher education to the area. We stand with them in their decision to halt all developmental work in Umoid until an amicable settlement is arrived at," he said.

Archbishop Lyngdoh also assured a prayerful support to Jesuits and the people of the area on behalf of the Catholic Church.
