Are Nagas ready to forgive their past hurts and reconcile for a better future?

Some of those who voted YES had this to say:
• Yes the general Nagas have time and again shown their readiness and wiliness to forgive and forget the past events. But our underground leaders, all our politicians, most public leaders will never reconcile for their personal gain. It is in this political climate that they get respect and become rich. In the name of representing certain groups or organization they make palaces and drive sport-cars. No matter, if they Nagas perish, these leaders will not allow Nagas to unite. This is the fact. So if we are really concern for our future, stop giving any respect to all our corrupt and selfish Naga leaders. This is not only their life-line but also earn respect in our society. They are surviving only because of this space. Once we exhibit what they deserve, they will say and do what we want them to say and do. Therefore, to have a better future condemn our underground leaders, our corrupted politicians, many NGO leaders and some church leaders. We will then have a bright future for the generation to come.

• Yes, we are all nagas brothers and sisters

• Yes, but all do not, some factions in the society want to retain total control over others, thus until the old guard die out noting good will happen

• Yes because we should be oneness for naga solution.

• Despite this lingering reminding me of James Hatfield’s signature “Never be Never See Won’t see what might have been Never free Never me So I dub thee Unforgiven,” I see no reason why there is no hope on the horizon.

• Yea because i love my state.

• Yes, we are all christian brothers and sisters. if we can't forgive and forget our past there will be no blessings of our past
• At this moment i should say yes...but nt by forgiving /forgetting, if MONEY is given I should say yes....Money can buy everything in Nagaland even peace...

• Yes, I believe that's the dream of every Naga Warriors...but everyone must go through the 12 steps programs of recovery first, only then there will be a true reconciliation... The twelve steps Principles of Recovery:
1.    We admitted we were powerless over our factionalism/ tribalism—that our lives had become unmanageable.
2.    Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3.    Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
4.    Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
5.    Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
6.    Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
7.    Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
8.    Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
9.    Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10. Continued to take personal inventory, and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.
11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to fellow Nagas/Tribes/Factions, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Some of those who voted NO had this to say:
• No! When the guilty party/parties are never ready to seek/beg forgiveness from the heart and soul, but instead strongly justifying their actions...and the third party offers the policy of 'forgive and forget', let us reconcile for tomorrow....its a big frank NO. Nagas are forgiving but not forgetful...so as long as the 'movements' exists...the hurts will continue. Better days await when these 'movements' truly become 'The Peoples' Movement'!

• No the nagas are not ready …. for a better future the nagas must stand together or else nagas wont get a good future.

• No, Nagas controlled by self.

• No All are not same

• Ism...Ism...Ism, this ism will not allow us to move ahead. Everything is based on this ism line. We the Nagas will be the same as today even in 100years to come. Infact there will be ism even in Heaven if there will be Nagas. So 4get about forgiving the past hurt and reconciling.

• From how i c it, I don't think so.

• with the present scenerio thats something which is not at all possible

• Forgive them and let them poop in my plate. NO. NEVER.

• NO. We refuse to forgive and reconcile because we feel justified in our resentment and bitterness. We cast all the blame and criticism on the other, and blind ourselves to the reality of our own faults. Thus we live in delusion.

Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:
• Truth and Reconciliation modeled South Africa is better. Face the ugliness of each perpetrators one by one. Let them confess and acknowledge what they have done. They cannot obviously cannot make any restitution but they can genuinely say sorry to all the victims of crime. Whether they are violation of Human Rights and randoms acts of killing or senseless corruption. Public must agree that they will not retaliate. But would like to see officers and ministers who took development grants and left everything dilapidated to pay back 30%-50% from their Savings or Investment so that much needed development can be realized. This is not retaliation but justice. They must own their wrong and make it right. This is just me.

• Let the underground leaders answer this. Our Naga underground called our Nagaland, “Nagaland for Christ,” but killed more than four thousand Naga people, more than they killed our enemy Indian army. If our underground leaders really believe in our Lord Jesus Christ let them first ask forgiveness from Lord Jesus Christ and also from our Naga people.

• 'If we wish for peace, prepare for war'. As löng as factions exist, there won't be peace. Factionalism has to end if Nagas want to see the light.

• The common (read mass) Nagas have nothing against one another. It is the misdeeds of the political leaders, bureaucrats and the factions creating divisions and misunderstanding among the people. Sometimes small issues are often disproportionately magnified when tribal hohos step in and thereby making it appear as tribal issue when the actual issue could be to do with some anti-social incidences involving one or two persons from different tribes. The sources of our misunderstandings are these elements because at personal level, Nagas have no serious problem with one another that can't be resolved.

• its a two way road.. YES as well as NO .. depends on what is in store with the forgiveness *just stating the fact*

• Well the question itself is debatable on what part of hurt you are talking about.. tribal, with the Central govt and so on.... But in all situation if right Education is given to all the youth one fine day we might see the change.....

• Two hindrances, overblown ego and tribal supremacy and cli ques. Two probable solutions, broadmindedness and tru spiritual revival.

• There is no question of forgiveness and reconciliation when the people are ignorant of their own past history. Moreover the brute reality which this revelations will bring about once they are made known cannot be simply brushed aside by "Prayer" or "Fasting". I belief that reconciliation can be attainable only through the path of deliberative democracy, where all the issues involved are brought into the political domain rather than to an abstract ideal domain of religion which is strictly private in nature. It is time that religious influences be segregated from issues which are imperative for the stability of our political community.
