Dimapur, April 6 (MExN): In a much needed morale boost to the Dimapur police, two men involved in an armed robbery on April 3, were tracked down and arrested today. The robbers identified as Atoshe Assumi (35 years), a resident of Burma Camp; and Kakiye Achumi (33 years), a resident of half-Nagarjan had robbed a non-Naga businessman on the evening of April 3 and stolen jewellery worth lakhs. They had forced their way into the residence with a pistol and a 12’ gauge shot gun.

Their luck, however, ran out as the West Police station personnel successfully used its network of informers resulting in the arrest. Officer-in-charge of West PS said they had given particular attention to jewellery businesses in town since there was a high possibility that the robbers might try to dispose off their loot. Their alertness bore dividends.

The duo was eventually tracked down and cornered at an undisclosed location in Burma Camp on Saturday. Police recovered the weapons used in the robbery along with a hand grenade, 6 rounds of .22 ammunition and a country-make .22 rifle barrel complete with magazine chamber and loading mechanism. The pistol used in the robbery was of .22 calibre. The stolen items was also recovered and handed over to the owner.

The robbers were booked under various sections of the law ranging from the Arms Act, Explosives Act, and armed robbery.
