Arson in Zoological Park yet again

Dimapur, March 7 (MExN): Arsonist set fire to a section of Nagaland Zoological Park on March 6 at around 12:00 noon affecting around 10 hectares on the northeastern side of the park. Timely detection of the fire and prompt action of the staff, fire tenders and Police brought the fire under control before it was able to spread to other parts of the park in spite of the strong winds.
“All the captive wildlife are safe and has not been affected by the fire. The staff and the police personnel posted in the park have been put on full alert to avoid future incidences,” informed Obed Bohovi Swu, officer in-charge of the park.
The Park’s authorities said the incident occurred when the staffs on duty were having lunch at their camp some distance away from the spot of the fire. “Some miscreants entered and removed some of the freshly erected angle posts in the deer park (deer natural habitat enclosure) under construction. The fire was set by the miscreants in order to divert the attention of the staff and thereby managed to escape. In this regard, an FIR has already been lodged at Diphupar Police Station for necessary action and further enquiry in going on. All the removed angle posts have been recovered.”
The authorities of the park thanks the officers and personnel of the Fire services department and the Police personnel for their prompt action in reaching the spot and putting out the fire before it could spread.
“Such co ordination on the part of all concerned departments is really laudable and the same is expected in the future too. The public are further urged to assist the department in protecting the only Zoological Park in the state and also help in apprehending the culprits,” the park’s authorities appealed.
