Asian University for Women opens 10 scholarships for Nagaland students

The deadline for scholarship application will be May 16, 2017.

  Chittagong, March 23 (MExN): The Asian University for Women (AUW), Chittagong (Bangladesh), is offering 10 scholarships for students from Nagaland to its undergraduate programs for the year starting August 2017.   Undergraduate courses offered include Economics (BA), Environmental Sciences (BS), Politics, Philosophy & Economics (BA) and Public Health Studies (BS). The undergraduate curriculum consists of a liberal arts core curriculum, majors, and optional minors to complement and supplement the majors.   The AUW is a regional and international university based in Chittagong, Bangladesh. The University opened its doors in 2008 and today has approximately 600 students from 15 countries and many cultural and religious backgrounds. It seeks to “germinate and develop a widening network of women leaders who will seek to address some of the most pressing issues of the day with innovative and bold solutions.”   Interested students can download application forms from the AUW website: www.auw.edu.bd/admissions/. The complete application package includes an application form, self-assessment form, and an institutional recommendation form. Applications from Nagaland need to be submitted in hard copy to The Morung Express office in Duncan Bosti, Dimapur, by May 28, 2017. For the scholarship applicants, their application forms need to arrive at The Morung Express office by May 16, 2017.   The core curriculum, according to the AUW website, follows a “modes of thought and reasoning” model and requires students to take courses in social analysis, ethical reasoning, literature, civilization studies, and the arts, science and mathematics, writing and rhetoric intensive seminars, and regional challenges in Asia. Typical types of courses offered include Social and Political Thought, World Literature, An Introduction to Asian Religions through Art, Human Rights, Art of the Personal Essay, Physics, Calculus, and Public Health Challenges in Asia.   The University draws women of “uncommon academic capability and leadership potential” from across Asia and the Middle East, stated a press release from the University today. It focuses particularly, but not exclusively, on identifying talent from among the most neglected population groups and bringing them to the highly multi-cultural residential community of its campus.
