Assam Rifles apprehend NSCN (K) cadre, others

Dimapur, December 11 (MExN): Assam Rifles have claimed that one NSCN (K) cadre and another ‘over ground worker’ of NSCN (K) were apprehended in separate incidents on December 11.  

5 Assam Rifles apprehended 2nd Lieutenant Zhekiho of NSCN (K) from a car during checking at a Mobile Vehicle Check Post established along with local police representatives at Ashukhomi, Zunheboto on December 11, according to a press release from PRO, Assam Rifles. One booklet and seven leaves of tax collection slip of NSCN (K) and cash worth Rs 6200 and two mobile phones were recovered from him, it alleged. The apprehended person was handed over to Zunheboto Police Station for further investigation.  

Meanwhile, Saiya Konyak (42) whom the Assam Rifles alleged to be an “over ground worker” of NSCN (K) was apprehended from a village under Mon district on December 11. 35 Assam Rifles had carried out the operation based on specific information regarding presence of NSCN (K) cadre in a house in the village, Assam Rifles said in another press release. One .22 rifle, 58 rounds of .22 ammunition, 12 rounds of 12 bore ammunitions, eight extortion slips of NSCN (K), 15 Voter’s Id cards, and Rs 8,68,300 were recovered from the apprehended person, it said. He along with the recovered items was handed over to Police Station, Mon for further investigation.  

Marijuana worth over Rs. 4 lakh recovered

9 Assam Rifles established a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) and recovered 210 kg of marijuana worth Rs. 4,20,000 near Pfutseromi village junction, Pfutsero Town on December 10, according to a press release from AR. The driver of the vehicle (Maruti Gypsy) bearing registration number NL 01C 4189 from where the marijuana was recovered tried to escape when the vehicle was stopped at the check post, the AR said. The contraband marijuana, vehicle and accused persons were handed over to Pfutsero Police Station for further investigation and action, it added.  

Liquor seized

In another incident, 44 Assam Rifles seized liquor from a Mobile Vehicle Check Post it had established along with a police representative in Tuli gate area on December 10. The liquor (48 cases and 8 bottles of Mc Dowells Rum) worth around Rs 2,33,600 were recovered from a Maruti car bearing registration number NL02C 8272, Assam Rifles informed. Two occupants of the vehicle identified as Ramuk Jamir and Merang along with the seized liquor were handed over to Police Station, Tuli for further investigation, it added.
