Assam Rifles desires to make Chieswema a model village

Kohima, Nov 28 (MExN): The commander of 5 Sector Assam Rifles laid the foundation stone of a community hall at Chieswema (Kohima) on November 18 last.

“It will serve as a common place for organizing various functions, meetings, medical camps and other activities in the village,” a PIB (Defence Wing) release said here today.

The Chieswema Village Council had approached 17  Assam Rifles for taking up a project for improving facilities for the community of the village. On their request, the unit projected requirements  for construction of a community hall in the village.

The function was attended by all village elders, VCC, VDB members, village GBs and a large gathering.

The foundation bricks were laid by the village headman, an old lady and a girl from the village along with other prominent figures.

Offering the vote of thanks, the VCC lauded the efforts being rendered by IGAR (N), HQ 5 Sector Assam Rifles and 17 Assam Rifles in cementing the bond of friendship between the Ar and the Naga people.

He said that such steps by “Friends of the Hill People” are making big inroads into the hearts of the villagers of Chieswema for which  they shall always remain indebted as their long cherished desire was being met.

The villagers hoped for such valuable help in future as well. The villagers particularly praised the efforts of 17th Assam Rifles for major development works in the village.

In his speech, Commander of 5 Sector Assam Rifles expressed desire to nurture Chieswema into a model village and offered cooperation in promoting floriculture, fruit plantation and mushroom farming. The villagers came forward with their suggestions and happily accepted the offer.
