DIMAPUR, APRIL 7 (MExN): In a case of assault, two miscreants allegedly attacked the driver and handyman of a mini truck travelling from Longkhim to Assam via Mokokchung on April 6. The incident happened at around 8:30pm at Mekhuli Juntion.
In a press note, the Additional SP of Mokokchung, Yaren Ngullie informed that the two victims namely Umesh Sharma (driver) and Helamlannga Chang (handyman) were stopped and asked to come out of the truck by the two individuals. It stated that while the driver tried to park the truck, one of the men “jumped and caught hold of the window on driver’s side.”
On being warned by the handyman, the miscreant managed to enter into the driver’s cabin and switch off the engine. The individual then allegedly assaulted the handyman “accusing that he (handyman) was trying to kill him.” The press note narrated that the handyman fled the scene and “escaped into a nearby jungle.”
It also alleged that the driver was physically assaulted and “confined to a nearby house” by the miscreants after the handyman had escaped. Leaving the driver in the house, the two individuals allegedly drove away with the truck and returned after an hour. On their return, it is alleged that they left the driver along with the vehicle at the spot of the incident.
The Additional SP, while on patrol the next morning was informed about the incident by the handyman, who was found “loitering.” A message was passed to the Tsutapela Police check gate to stop the vehicle when it arrived. At that same time, the driver along with the truck reached the gate and reported the incident to the personnel in charge. It was informed that the Additional SP then dropped the handyman at the gate.
On identifying the place where the incident occurred, the Mokokchung District Police arrested the two miscreants involved, namely Chubalemba and Aokumba of Khensa village. The Additional SP informed that a report has been lodged by the driver and that a case has been registered.
