Assisi Evening School hosts interfaith meet

  Dimapur, November 7 (MExN): Interfaith meet was organized by Assisi Evening School with the theme ‘Towards Peace’. Representative from four different religions were invited as speakers and Sr. Rosin Norhna, UFS moderated the session.   Alok Pareek, a social activist one of the speakers of the day shared about peace in the perspective of Hinduism. He made clear to the participants that Hinduism is a way of life which inspires to live life based on human value such as forgiveness, generosity and sharing. “Every prayer in the Hindu religion ends with ‘Om Shanti’ which means ‘O Lord, please bless us with peace.’” He also explained the meaning of slogan such as Satyameva Jayate, Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.   Lama Tashi Moktan, the president of Northeast Mahayana Buddhist Association represented the Buddhist Community. He enlightened the audience to follow and practice peace which spring from oneself. He touched upon eightfold paths practiced in Buddhism inorder to get rid of suffering.   Moinuddin who represented Islam community inspired the children to extend the boundary of our entire neighborhood to live in peace. He appreciated the school for educating many less privileged children in a qualitative way.   Sr. Lucy Phom, UFS who represented Christian community began her speech by defining what peace according to individual is and then she explained how Jesus Christ teaches his followers to live in peace. She said that the word “Shalom” means to be safe in mind and body. The true biblical Shalom refers to an inward sense of wholeness or completeness where in one experience tranquility and harmony. Jesus is the Prince of peace and in Him peace is unlimited.   During question hour session students came up with different question which were clarified by the speakers.   Adv. Liangsi Nuimai, Director Care Centre for Environment and Rural Poor in her concluding remark suggested the students five practical ways to build up peace- begin every activity with a prayer, forgive oneself and others, help the needy, love the cosmos and stand for truth.   During the programme students presented songs, acted out skits on peace and dressed in religious attires which promote peace. The programme came to end with Peace Prayer, ‘Lord Make us Instruments of Peace”.
