Kohima, April 2 (MExN): The 19th Assam Rifles on April 1, during an operation with police representatives from Police Station (North), Kohima intercepted Maruti vans with registration numbers AS-12-5597 and NL-02-C-1310 at Naga Hospital junction Kohima carrying assorted liquor: 59 cases of MC rum, MC whisky and 2 numbers of canned beer.
The superintendent of excise & prohibition Katoho Sumi stated that the accused identified as Sanjay Thapa, and Samanata Deori, were booked under Sec 3 (1) for violation of NLTP Act ’89 and the seized consignment were deposited at Excise Malkhana, Kohima.

Sumi informed that various law enforcing agencies have set on war footing to contain smuggling of illicit/illegal liquor especially during Lok Sabha election.
He stated that the Assam Rifles have courageously proved time and again by action that prohibition can be implemented and free flow of liquor from neighboring Assam via Dimapur to other districts of Nagaland can be brought to a record low in terms of transport, sale and possession.
Stating that surprise checking will be carried out in future as well, he requested the public to bear with the inconveniences during such time.
