ASU gears for anti-alien drive

Kohima, June 9 (MExN): The Angami Students’ Union (ASU) today expressed deep concern over the influx of illegal migrants into Nagaland, which the union said, was posing an alarming threat to the state of affairs. “As our society is too small, the crisis would have us easily overwhelmed. A thought to logically comprehend what is needed to be done is now or never,” the ASU observed in a press release received here today.

“The fate of our culture, our identity, our land and our very survival needs to be strongly considered,” and the problem needs serious handling of thought and action, the ASU reminded. Stating that the situation demands “us of a shared responsibility in this common crisis or to be a crisis in the near future,” the union said that the state government and the administration ought to analyze their efficiency in administering its duties.

“With renewed vitality, this subject must be seriously looked into,” the union said. Stating the ASU to be a social organization functioning for the advancement the society and its future, it expressed profound alarm  “at the booming of illegal immigrants in around Kohima district.” As a preemptive measure to tackle the threat, the union will once again take up its initiative of “verification drive,” from June 15 till July 15th.

The union requested every non-local to get their Inner Line Permits verified at the ASU’s office on the specified dates. “Failing to comply within the stipulated time, the ASU will be compelled to take its own course of action,” the ASU warned. Also, the ASU referred to its past “verification drive” which saw some individuals trying to protect illegal immigrants for vested individual interests. Such protection to the illegal immigrants hampers  the drive, the union said. The organization has appealed to all right-thinking citizens to cooperate with the union in its endeavor
