Wokha, August 28 (MExN): The ATMA Bhandari block, Wokha district conducted various activities on August 24 and 25 at Merapani.


 A press release issued by D O (Sc) cum BTT Convener, Bhandari Block, Wokha stated that the ATMA Bhandari block conducted a training programme on the topic “Mushroom cultivation” on August 25 .The training was conducted by Jonjibeni Mozhui (ATM, Bhandari). The main objectives of the training was self-consumption or for commercial production in the market by the SHG’s by using easily available local resources. The training was attended by 20 farmer’s altogether and it concluded by distributing mushroom spawn to each farmers present in the training.


The ATMA also conducted a demonstration programme on “Intercropping of black pepper with arecanut”. The demonstration was conducted by Tracy Mozhui (ATM Bhandari) and carried out in the farm school of Nyamo odyuo. The main aim of the demonstration was to add more economic return through intercropping for arecanut farmers, the release said. The demonstration was attended by 20 farmers.


Meanwhile, demonstration on “Integrated Pest management of arecanut” was conducted by Phyobeni Mozhui(ATM Bhandari) and was carried out in the newly inaugurated Arecanut Farm School at Merapani on August 24. Different cultural, mechanical and chemical methods for pest control were demonstrated in the field. Altogether 20 participants attended the demonstration programme.


ATMA Bhandari Block also conducted mobilization of Self Help Groups (SHGs) on August 25 at Merapani where their capacity building, skill development and support services through ATMA by providing seed money was also informed. Altogether 6 persons representing two SHGs attended the Programme.


Also, the inauguration programme of Arecanut farm school was held at Merapani, at the progressive farmers’ field of Nyamo Odyuo. Altogether 18 persons cultivating arecanut attended the programme.
