
Dimapur, August 3 (MExN): ATMA Dimapur Niuland block conducted demonstration programme under PMKSY at Zutoi village on August 1. Resource person HD Singh, SMS (Horticulture), KVK ICAR, Jharnapani spoke on the topic ‘Drip irrigation & mulching in horticultural crops’ where he emphasized that this method supplies water directly to the root zone of the crop, instead of land, and therefore, the water losses occurring through evaporation and distribution are completely absent.
Dr. Ebibeni Ngullie, SMS (Animal Sc), KVK ICAR elaborated on the topic ‘integrated Farming System in terms of water harvesting & management’ with special reference to (Agri, Horti, Fishery and Livestock) and cited its advantages like improved profitability achieved mainly by way of reduced costs due to recycling of wastes of one enterprise as energy inputs for other systems and also it forces the entrepreneur to know more things and hence improves the literacy level.
Integrated Farm School was opened under PMKSY in Zutoi village at Tokugha’s farm spread in an area of 2.5 hectares where he constructed poultry house above his fishery and planted 1500 banana plants intercropped with arecanut. He said that rain water and borewell water is used for poultry house and fishery water is utilized for banana plantations during dry season. The programme was chaired by Demalu Hasnusa, BTM, Niuland block where two sintex, pump set pipes and lateral pipes used for drip irrigation were distributed to the farm school teacher.
