ATMA functionaries trained on fish farming

Medziphema, May 9 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised training on ‘Fish farming, design, construction & maintenance of farm pond for fishery’ for ATMA functionaries at SAMETI, Medziphema from May 8–9.  

The training was aimed at equipping the trainees with technical knowledge about fish farming to be emulated at the district level, informed a press release from SAMETI director.  

Resource persons for the training were Shamyung O. Ongh, Fishery Inspector, FFDA Dimapur and Adizenuo Dolie, Assistant Fishery Inspector, Fishery Biologist Dimapur. The training course included lectures on Pond management, Design and construction of fish pond, Fish culture and seed production in fresh water.  

A field trip to fish farm, FFDA Dimapur was undertaken, where a demonstration on pond management, feed mixture, liming of pond, feeding habits, mode of feeding and PH testing was conducted by the staff of the department.  

In the valedictory function, director SAMETI Dr. I Amenla stated that fish farming has become a boon for the health conscious community because of its nutritional values. As such, she opined that there is an urgent need to minimize the gap in the production and import of fish in Nagaland.  

She encouraged the trainees to take up the task of meeting the requisite demand and supply in the State by educating the fish farmers through sound technology transfer. Amenla also stressed that the youth, entrepreneurs and farmers should invest in fish farming as it is not only lucrative but would contribute in meeting the State’s demand and supply.  

Certificates were distributed to the participants by the SAMETI director.
