MON, September 1 (MExN): ATMA Mon Block conducted training programmes on August 19 and 20 at Goching villages and Chi villages respectively. The resource persons were ManlenLongcha ATM, Khriezelhou Seyie ATM and Shampa Konyak ATM.


On August 19, training was given on “Post harvest management of Ginger” through storage by clayed bamboo walled structure. The resource person also elaborated on various value addition methods of the rhizome.


Training on “Fallow land management using Dhaincha (green manuring)” was conducted on August 20. The use of the leguminous crop Dhaincha as an alternate environmental friendly agricultural practice to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and maintain soil fertility for sustainable agriculture was discussed. Dhaincha seeds were given to the trainees.

 

WAKCHING BLOCK: ATMA Mon, Wakching block conducted various training and demonstration programmes from August 20 to 23. A two day training and demonstration was conducted at Shiyong village where ‘demo on application of Bio NPK and micronutrients’ was done for seed treatment, seedling treatment and soil application. 


Later, training on sustainable promotion of Non Timber Forest Product (NTFP) was conducted. It can be noted that how rural tribal derived a significant part of their food, healthcare needs and can generate income from NTFP. Demo on ‘preparation of compost pit’ at farm level was done the next day. The resource persons were ATM Langnyei Angh and ATM Weeniyie Yanlen. 


On August 22 and 23, training and demonstration was conducted at Tanhai village under the themes ‘green manuring’, ‘application of lime in orchard’ and ‘value addition of king chilli’. Resource persons were ATM Langnyei Angh, ATM Jaitok Phom and BTM Roseline Pusa. A total of 47 farmers attended the programmes and seeds and other farm inputs were distributed to the participants.  

 

PHOMCHING BLOCK: ATMA Mon Phomching block conducted demonstration programme at Tangnyu village on August 21. Resource person Dr. Pangdun Konyak explained the importance of cleaning and disinfection of pig sty and also importance of regular deworming in pigs was explained and procedures were demonstrated to the farmers. Finally, Albendazole (dewormer) and KMnO4 (disinfectant) were distributed to the farmers. Altogether 16 farmers attended the programme.

 

ABOI BLOCK: ATMA Mon Aboi block conducted training on the topic post harvest management of ginger in Langmeang village on August 21. The resource person, Wanshom Konyak ATM Aboi, spoke about various applicable techniques to enhance the productivity and shelf life of ginger.Members from shaijum SHG and farmers from langmeang village attended the program.The resource person elaborated on various value addition methods of ginger and also demonstrated on the preparation of ginger candy to the trainees.The trainees were also informed on the various health benefits of ginger by the resource person

 

CHEN BLOCK: ATMA Mon Chen block, conducted training in chenwetnyu village on the topic fallow land management using dhaincha on August 21.The resource person, Youngba Konyak ATM Chen, highlighted on the insecurity and challenges facing the farmers due to loss of fertility of arable land.He encouraged the farmers for sustainable agriculture using green manuring for improving the soil biological properties, fertility, nutrient supply of succeeding crops and also for checking soil erosion.The trainees were given dhaincha seeds supplied by DAO Mon and expressed their willingness and optimism  in  sustainable evergreen agriculture for the future.

 

TIZIT BLOCK: ATMA Mon, Tizit Block on August 22 organised training and demonstration programme with Nchumthung Murry ATM and Lensanok Tzuwar, ATM as resource person at Sangsa Village. Training on cultivation practices of cabbage and cauliflower was given where the resource person spoke on scientific approaches in cultivation of winter vegetables including technique nursery raising, soil sterilization, optimum time of sowing, line transplantation, after care and integrated method  of pest and disease Control. Seeds of Cabbage and cauliflower were also distributed to the participants.

 

ANGJANGYANG BLOCK: ATMA Mon Angjangyang block organised and conducted various training and demonstration programme across the block from August 22 to 24. The team was lead by BTM Nemchaba Jamir covering three villages.


On the first day, a training programme on packages and practices of potato was conducted at ATMA farm school Jakphang village. The resource person Longrikaba Ao and Linota Y Chopy ATM explains potato as a “poor man’s friend” an economical food and its dietary advantages. They also elaborated on cultivation practices such as field preparation, seed selection, seed treatment, methods of planting and suitable time of planting etc to the participants.


On August 23, training programme on fallow land management was conducted at Angjangyang village. On a day long discussion BTM Nemchaba Jamir explains the significance of poverty among rural areas which is closely associated to agriculture with low productivity and high inputs of labour. He also explains that jhum system becoming unsustainable as cycles becoming shorter with less time to restore soil fertility and biodiversity. Various inputs were shared for managing fallow land that provides agricultural inputs.


On August 24, the team conducted training on application of lime for enhancing soil health. The resource person Leiwang Konyak ATM explains on the simple procedure for application of agricultural lime and its advantages to the soil health.


Various demonstrations were also done on indigenous seed treatment techniques, production technology of mushroom and post harvest value addtion of ginger. Seeds and various materials were distributed to the participants. Altogether 68 farmers from different group and villages were benefited from the programme.
