ATMA Ralan demonstrates on mobilisation of SHGs

Wokha, september 1 (MExN): ATMA Ralan Block, Wokha conducted training, demonstration & mobilization of Self Help groups (SHGs) on August 27, at New Chandalashung village.
A press release issued by Chophabeni Kikon, Block technology manager, Ralan block, Wokha stated that training was imparted on the topic “Package of practices for chilli cultivation” by Thungjano (ATM). She delivered the important aspects of chilli cultivation i.e. the ideal conditions, land preparation, soil treatment, spacing, seed treatment, planting etc. She also addressed the various diseases & pests infesting chilli plants by teaching them the organic measuresto tackle them.
Chophabeni Kikon, (BTM) carried out mobilization of SHGs. She highlighted the importance of setting up SHGs & explained them in brief the roles that Self Help Groups play by making the members become self-reliant, confident& more empowered economically thereby uplifting their livelihoods. 3 SHGs were identified.
Demonstration on ‘raised bed nursery preparation for vegetables’ was performed by Nchumthung (ATM). After explaining the selection of site, type of soil & advantages of raised nursery bed preparation he demonstrated the proper method and practices of raised nursery bed preparation.
Another demonstration was carried out by Soyingbeni (ATM) on vermicompost making. She performed step by step the procedures involved in making a low cost vermicompost. Precautions to be taken during the process of compost production were also deliberated. She also explained the various methods of application of vermicompost and its numerous benefits since the key to organic agriculture was through the use of vermicompost to enhance soil fertility.
Samples of vermicompost were distributed to the farmers. Altogether 48 farmers & ATMA officials attended the programme.
