ATMA Sangsangnyu inaugurates farm school

Tuensang, August 25 (MExN): ATMA Sangsangnyu block, Tuensang conducted inauguration of farm school, training, demonstration programmes and mobilization of farmers at Konya village on August 16 and 17.
A press release received here stated that the Cardamom farm school was inaugurated at Konya village with an aim to promote farmer-to-farmer extension for effective and fast technology transfer in Agriculture and Allied Field among the farming community. The farm school was inaugurated by BTT Convener Beso Chang (JSCO) and the concept of the farm school and role of Farm teacher was explained to the farmers by BTM Temjenmen.
B Moshaba Chang, a pioneer in Cardamom cultivation in his village was appointed as farm school teacher. At the programme, resource person BTT member Chemlila Sangtam (HI) demonstrated on cultivation practices in large cardamom and trained the farmers on post harvesting and processing methods. Beso Chang (JSCO), BTT Convener gave training on soil and water conservation practices emphasizing on contour bunding and contour trenching and their construction using a frame.
Farmer groups were also mobilized on August 17 and ATM Mayangthemba Longkumer, imparted training on managing agricultural and kitchen waste through composting encouraging the participants to make composting a viable option for a source of rich organic matter. He also gave a practical demonstration on preparation of nursery bed for Cabbage. The demonstration was followed by distribution of cabbage seeds. Altogether 30 farmers and ATMA Functionaries attended the programme, the release added.
