Kohima, June 19 (MExN): Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Sechü-Zubza block inaugurated an ‘Integrated Farm School’ on June 18 at Mezoma Bawe and appointed Miasalhou as Farm School teacher.
During the programme, the concept of Farm School and the duties and responsibilities of a Farm School teacher were highlighted, informed a press release on Sunday.
Meanwhile, mobilisation of farmers group as well as field demonstration on ‘Integrated- pest Management’ was imparted by ATM Thejavizonuo Kelio at Mezoma Basa. The farmers were informed on the benefits of working together in groups and that group functioning is always cost effective and more profitable than individual operations. The farmers were also appraised on Kisan Call Centre (KCC) toll-free number and how they could effectively use it to their advantages.
Under Integrated Pest Management (IPM), the resource person spoke on analysing pest problems, determining and making appropriate recommendations using IPM techniques as IPM is an approach which involves integrating multiple control methods based on site information obtained through inspection and monitoring. Identification, symptoms of damage and management of important insect pest were discussed through visual charts. She further explained that farmers can keep the balance in their favour by trying not to harm predatory arthropods which feed on plant eating pests.
The event was attended by women farmers, ATMA functionaries along with farmer’s friend of the village. Bio-pesticides and roban were later distributed, the release stated.
