Zunheboto, August 28 (MExN): ATMA Zunheboto organized one day farmers training at SARS, Yisemyong on August 19 with a total of 11 farmers from different blocks. The resource person for the training was T. Supongmar Longchar, deputy director SARS and Temsuienla Joint Director SARS.
Farmers were introduced to the importance of agriculture and the need to feed the ever-growing human population. Discussion on importance on seeds, soil, water and control of weeds were briefly discussed by Supongmar followed by a practical session in the field where different field plots were visited with interactions of preparation of soil for sowing.
Temsuienla discussed on importance of maintaining nursery for raising winter vegetable crops like broccoli, cauliflower, knolkhol etc. She also highlighted different methods of sowing, raising nursery bed and management of different pest in disease in the nursery.
Also ATMA Zunheboto visited Apiary farm of progressive farmer Chubaangshi at Yisemyong, Mokokchung on August 23 with a total of 13 Farmers. The farmer highlighted his inspiration for bee keeping, he also briefed about his success story stating that government jobs are not the only source of income for the people. He trained the farmers on handling of honey bees, setting up a friendly relationship with honey bees ultimately leading to higher income for the farmers. The farmer also encouraged the participants by stating that rearing honey bee has been a beneficial pursuit for him generating a half yearly income of Rs. 1 Lakh and 69 thousands and encourage farmers to pursue such activity.
