Foundation stone for upgradation of PHC to Community Health Centre laid 

Zunheboto, January 25 (MExN): After a gap of 44 years, the Government of Nagaland laid the foundation stone for up-gradation of Primary Health Centre, Atoizu to Community Health Centre at Atoizu under Zunheboto district on January 25. 

Inaugurating the foundation stone laying ceremony for the up-gradation, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland, S Pangnyu Phom said, “Atoizu PHC is the oldest and upgrading of PHC to CHC after 44 years is long overdue and knowing the backbone story is heartening.”

“Due to lack of medical facilities we have lost so many lives but with this up gradation he hoped to facilitate better health care delivery services to the public,” the Minister expressed regret. 

According to a press release from the District Media Officer, Pangnyu explained how the “government studied and observed all the districts, subdivisions and to why in some places development cannot be there, extension infrastructure, construction, equipments while consoling with the officials he came to know that Zunheboto is one of the most neglected district in health sector.”

“In some areas the government has failed, but to succeed users should come forward and jointly venture in any schemes/project he urged people’s participation. Land issue has been a problem in the district, the sub-centre; health centre including District Hospital have history of land owners causing inconvenience,” he observed. 

The Minister urged the public leaders, civil societies to educate the people of the villages and added that if the court legal/land issue is removed within few years the health sector will be developed. With the up gradation, lots of infrastructure and development will come with time; he hoped that there will be no land owner and no court case.

He concluded his speech by stating that to save the precious lives people’s participation is one of the most important factors and asked the public to come forward and get vaccinated, which is the only solution to fight the pandemic. 

The inaugural was chaired by Dr Y Aron Muru, DTO & DPO (UIP & RCH), Zunheboto chaired the programme. Dr Muru while giving a brief introduction about Atoizu PHC stated that it was established in the year 1978. It covers five sub centre with a population of 22000 functioning with the strength of two Medical Officers, three nurses (GNM, LHV&ANM), and few supporting staffs. 

He stated that with this up gradation coming into reality has fulfilled the long felt need and aspiration of the people of Atoizu and district as a whole. “With this landmark development in the area he assures the medical department and all the stakeholders to work relentlessly, sincerely and with commitment to bring better quality health care services to the people,” he added. 

Welcome address was given by Arikumba ADC Atoizu. Speech on behalf of Atoizu area was delivered by Vikishe Head GB Vekuho New, vote of thanks was given by Toluvi Aye TCM Atoizu, and benediction by Dr Anati Associate Pastor Woman SBAK (NM).

Er Picto Shohe, MLA and Dr K Vikato Kinimi, Director (Health) H&FW Nagaland were also present during the inaugural. The programme was attended by Rev Picuto Yeptho, Literature Secretary SBAK, CMO Zunheboto, Hokishe Kiba Sumi, Hoho Vice President, Shikuto Achumi, BJP Zunheboto District President and colleagues, Arikumba ADC Atoizu, civil society’s organization, accompanying officials from the Directorate and staffs of the Atoizu PHC.
