Auto driver arrested for assault, robbery

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 22 (MExN): An autorickshaw driver identified as one Suno Ali was nabbed while in the act of assaulting and robbing passengers on February 21 last. According to a press note from the Additional Superintendent of Police, Dimapur, Ali was arrested by an IRB patrolling party from the New Dhansiri Bridge while the latter alongwith an accomplice (also said to be a driver) first assaulted and looted  some passengers their three-wheeler were ferrying.
The unwary passengers who were said to have arrived from Manipur by bus at around 10:00 pm had got down at the Tragopan Point and hired an autorickshaw to take them to the railway station. Instead Ali, with another driver, took the passengers towards the New Dhansiri Bridge where they committed the crime. They had managed to loot cash amounting to ` 2000 during the act. However, they were stopped short of completing the crime as an IRB police party on patrol was alerted. Ali was arrested while his unidentified accomplice managed to escape.  

Two fraudsters held
Two persons identified as Thungchanbemo Yanthan (38 years), and Limathung Ezung (42 years), resident of ADC Court area, Dimapur were arrested on February 19 on charges of forgery with the intent of cheating. The former is said to be a resident of Duncan Basti, while the latter reside in the DC Court area.  
According to the note from the ASP, the duo had reportedly forged the signature of the Revenue Office , Dimapur “in a Gift Deed executed on 12th August 2010 in which a plot of land situated at Dimapur Town was gifted to another individual by forging the signatures of the Revenue Officer and the registered Kanungo of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Nagaland.”
The forgery was detected by the revenue officer on February 18 last, when the aforementioned persons came to the RO’s office alongwith the ‘gift deed’ for registration. A case has been registered in this connection.

NSCN (IM) cadre held with arms
On February 22, troops of the 24 Assam Rifles apprehended one NSCN (IM) cadre identified as one self styled ‘Corporal’ Enos Rengma (19 years) at a MVCP (MobileVehicle Checkpost) set up at Kushiabil, Dimapur. One 7.65 mm pistol of country make with six rounds was seized from his possession. A case has been registered in this connection, the note stated.
