KOHIMA (MExN): Vocalizing his desire that underprivileged children should not be deprived of education, Nagaland Governor Shyamal Datta today said that he wanted the newly established G Rio School to consider free admissions for some orphans.
Datta said social responsibility was essential to think and provide the best education for the orphans.

Inaugurating the school located at High School road, Kohima, the Governor placed high hopes on the school that it would provide quality education and at the same time added that the school would bring “more shine and pride” to the State.
Stressing on the importance of moral education, Datta said it helped in imbibing the instincts of goodwill, truth and beauty in humans.

Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, who is the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the school, while welcoming the huge gathering of dignitaries, relatives and well-wishers recounted the life-story of his father late Guolhoulie. The grand school complex is said to have been established by a family trust in memory of late Guolhoulie, who from childhood was orphaned, but by dint of hard work was able to educate his numerous children, who are today all well placed; this includes the Chief Minister himself.

The widow of late Guolhoulie Rio was the centre of attention on the proud occasion in the midst of her children, grand-children and well-wishers. “You are indeed praiseworthy,” the Governor complimented Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and his family for launching the school.

The Chief Minister said the establishment of the school was the vision of his father late G Rio who desired to impart quality education. It was a fulfillment of his dream, Rio maintained. Datta said that to honour a parent with a memorial is an opportunity that seldom comes to very rare people. On the occasion, he exemplified the life of Guolhoulie to what a self-made man can achieve. Datta exhorted everyone to be the architect of one’s own destiny. He lauded the emphasis being placed on ‘Character-building’ through moral education as part of the school’s curriculum.

Besides formal education, the school will impart games and sports, NCC activities, music, to mould the children to be God fearing and provide viable ground to face the challenges of today’s competitive world.

Expressing gratitude to each and every individual for extending their support, the Chief Minister also further sought their continuous help, saying through the united efforts it can make the school an ideal place of learning and secure a healthy and vibrant society.

G. Rio School’s administrator Khrienuo Moa told media persons that the institute would give due importance to the unprivileged children as desired by the Governor.

Several legislators including Minister for Planning & Urban Development Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu, School Education Minister Imkong L. Imchen, Industries & Commerce Minister Khekiho Zhimomi, PHE Minister Tokheho and several others attended the function.
