Dimapur, September 15 (MExN): At the initiation of the General Officer Commanding, Army, 3rd Corps, Dimapur, Lt. General Anil Chauhan, an awareness programme for conservation of wildlife in general and Amur Falcons in particular was organised at Manekshaw Auditorium, Army, 3rd Corps, Dimapur on September 15.
Brigadier Rakesh Sharma, Col. Ajit Yeole, Col. S. Rangnathan, JCOs, Jawans , principals and teachers of the schools and 300 students participated in the programme along with officers and staffs from the Wildlife Wing, Nagaland Forest Department.
Satya Prakash Tripathi, PCCF (Wildlife) & Chief Wildlife Warden, Nagaland spoke on dependency of human beings on forests and intrinsic relationship among human beings, forests and wild animals. Suman W. M. Shivachar, Wildlife Warden, Kiphire made a PowerPoint presentation on Conservation of wildlife in Nagaland, highlighting the varieties of wildlife found in the State.
A documentary film titled, ‘Fly Free’, made by the Nagaland Forest Department was also shown in the programme.
A press release stated here that the programme was chaired by Col. Y. Ajit Yeole, 3rd Crops, Army Hq, Dimapur. In his concluding remarks, he stated that all Army/Paramilitary Units under the control of the 3rd Crops have been directed by the competent authority to create awareness programme among Jawans, children/students, villagers and other stakeholders on protection and conservation of Wildlife and Amur Falcons and all the Units are ready to provide assistance to the Nagaland Forest Department in this endeavour.
