
Kohima, March 23 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, in collaboration with District Administration (Phek) and CD&HG conducted an intensive awareness programme on fire and earthquake in sub divisions of Phek district.
A press note issued by the District Administration, Phek stated that this programme was initiated keeping in view that Phek area has been the epicentre of earthquakes in recent times. The programme was conducted from March 19 to 22 covering Chozuba, Meluri, Pfutsero and Phek town. Resource persons included Dr. Chibenthung Kithan, Medical Officer, Yimpang, H&FW, Keren R. Rose, State Media Officer, NSDMA, Khrolou Koza Lohe, Training & Capacity Building Officer, NSDMA and personnel from CD&HG. The target audience consisted of GBs, DBs, Church leaders, Village Councils, Town Councils and Village Guards (in Meluri). Presentations on disaster preparedness, forest fire safety, medical first aid, CPR, Search & Rescue, bandaging, lashing etc were made.
All the programmes were followed by a question hour where the audience participated actively raising questions on bleeding control, forest fire safety tips etc. The note further stated, “Keeping in mind that the community is always the first responder in times of disaster the NSDMA organises community awareness programmes to equip people with knowledge on do’s and don’ts. The sub division awareness programme on disaster management was spearheaded by the concerned ADCs/EACs of the blocks”.
