KOHIMA, MAY 23 (MExN): The Angami Women Organisation (AWO) on Friday welcomed the Government of Nagaland’s decision to suspend Reny Wilfred from his official position, stating that the action reflects a commitment to ethical governance and accountability.
In a statement, the AWO said Wilfred’s suspension follows a “disturbing pattern of abusing his position of power to abuse women and children.” It lauded the government for acting promptly and recognising the seriousness of the allegations.
“The suspension demonstrates the government’s commitment to accountability and ethical governance. It also serves as a reminder that no individual is above the law, and those in public service must uphold the highest standards of integrity and conduct,” the organisation stated.
Reaffirming its stand, the AWO said the safety of women and children remains its utmost priority. “We will go to any extent to protect our womenfolk,” the statement added.
The organisation further urged the judiciary to ensure a legal process that is free, fair and transparent, without prejudice or delay. “Justice must be served, and any wrongdoing must be addressed with appropriate disciplinary and legal measures to uphold public trust and the rule of law,” it added.
