AYO appeals High Power Committee to devise additional modalities

Kohima, May 11 (MExN): The Angami Youth Organization (AYO) on Tuesday appealed the High Power Committee (HPC) to devise additional modalities to be affected during or immediately after the lockdown period particularly in providing effective vaccination to the public apart from contact tracing and testing in the face of recent surge.

“Lockdown for the sake of lockdown may not necessarily serve its purpose if these core issues are not appropriately addressed,” AYO stated in an appeal issued by its president Kekhrie Pfukha.

“By empowering our over burdened and overstretched frontline health workers who are working under perilous conditions further, we continue to equip ourselves with a shield of protection,” it stated while “sincerely” appealing to the public to extend fullest cooperation.

AYO observed that in the first COVID-19, no one was aware of what to do except to follow the SOPs given by the government and health workers.

“These are difficult times which the whole world is encountering and the worst is now in India and our State is surely affected. Yet again, we must evolve according to the situational realities of our times,” it stated. In the sense that vaccinations have been going on and we trust that our authorities would make it available for the public in this second COVID wave as apparently this is a possible shield which is at hand in addition to following all SOPs, it expressed.

On economic impact, AYO said that our fragile economy is likely to be adversely affected and especially the poor would suffer the most. “We trust the government is prepared to assist in mitigating the foreseeable impending dangers. All the business houses especially those selling essential commodities are advised not to hike their prices,” it appealed.

The AYO further said that ‘this is a collective battle in which all of us must contribute in all dimensions as we fight the second COVID wave in Nagaland. Let us not panic or create panic in any way because testing or vaccinating is the means and processes to defeat COVID. Let’s continue to live responsibly.’
