AYO, CYO discontented with pace of four-lane highway construction

Kohima, February 16 (MExN): The Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) and Chakhroma Youth Organisation (CYO) today expressed displeasure over ‘the pace in which the four-lane highway construction is being carried out under the supervision of NHIDCL.’

In a statement issued by AYO, President, Kekhrie Pfukha and CYO, President, Seyieneilhou Keyho alleged that “upon inquiry into the matter, it is discovered that the construction company has a huge deficit of seriousness and responsibility. Until today, all the justifications given by them are either evasive or unreasonable.”

The two organizations also stated that the district administration of Dimapur and State government also cannot pass the buck entirely to the contracting agency as they are also equally liable and responsible for the delay in the work.

“It does not take a rocket scientist to comprehend that if mud and rocks are cut from below, such recent occurrence of road slide avalanche types are inevitable,” they remarked.

The youth organizations also said, “It is also learnt that only a sizeable portion of land are given in the road expansion, when in the way of work, additionally double or triple size expansion of land is required from the stretch between Patkai Bridge and Kukidolong. These are serious issues which the government should be focusing on.”

The AYO and CYO also put across “whether any environmental impact assessment was made prior to the implementation of the work. Apparently, land acquisition was only an open ended measure to activate the work which has hazardously created a total disaster putting human lives at risk, created massive environment destruction and inconvenienced the commuters on the vital lifeline of the State and beyond.”

Further, it expressed concern that the monsoon season will be setting in very soon and if immediate proper measures are not put in place “difficult times are ahead of us again.”

“We trust that even a semblance of sanity shall prevail over irresponsibility, lack of seriousness and greed,” the youth bodies added.
