AYO expresses concern for public security, protection of life & properties

Kohima, August 23 (MExN): The Angami Youth Organization (AYO) in a press statement today said it has “no interest or business in the present political impasse within the NPF” from which they have distanced themselves thus far.

However, it alleged that “out of this situation …many unwarranted and ugly scenario of law and order situation has been encountered on numerous occasions putting public peace and welfare at stake. Our concern is public security, protection of life and properties.”

It recounted that on August 11, Benjamin Newmai, Commissioner & Secretary, Nagaland Legislative Assembly was threatened at his residence; on August 21, Kelei Zeliang, Commissioner & Secretary (RD) was given psychological threats; on August 21, bullets were fired at Hotel Vivor.

The AYO therefore “unequivocally condemns the act of cowardice, hooliganism and goons prowling around perpetrating fear psychosis, intimidation and threats by certain anti social elements.”

While appealing the law enforcing agency to immediately book the people involved under appropriate section of law, the AYO made it clear that “this statement be considered the final warning in the event any such incident occurs again.”

“These are all sporadic incidents that have occurred in a very short period of time. We make it clear that once efforts are exerted, it will be easy to rein in these gangsters. We warn these miscreants once and for all to refrain from such diabolical acts to avoid public wrath,” stated the press note appended by AYO president, Neinguvoto Krose and PRO, Petevito Nakhro.

It also informed that in view of many developing situations, the AYO will be convening the presidential council meeting at the earliest and invited all Angami village unit presidents and executive members to be prepared. The time and date will be communicated and published on a later date, it added.
