Banks select PACS for pilot project on CAS

Dimapur, May 15 (MExN): Dry run of software on Common Accounting System (CAS) for Primary Agricultural Cooperative Activities (PACS) followed by a training program was conducted in the HO of Nagaland State Cooperative Bank (NSCB) on May 13. The program was one of the benchmark activities in the implementation of Revival Packages under the Short Term Cooperative Credit Structure (STCCS) in the state as per the MoU signed by the Government of India-National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and Government of Nagaland in 2008. 

The Commissioner Secretary for Cooperation and Fisheries graced the inaugural function as the Chief Guest while Imkonlemla Longkumer, Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Nagaland was the Guest of Honour. 

BK Thadani, MD, NSCB discussed on the benchmark activities under the STCCS and the problems faced by the state and the bank in the implementation process at the event. He informed that the implementation of CAS in the PACS is one of the major benchmark activities that have to be complied with the HO. He further informed that a State Level Implementation Committee (SLIC) has selected three PACS in the state, namely Aho FCS, Khehokhu village; Aoyimkum MPCS, Aoyimkum village and Nagarjan MPCS, Kuda village as pilot projects for implementation of the dry run of software.

Meanwhile, AM Yadav, DGM, NABARD, RO Nagaland assured that on completion of the benchmark activities, he would take the matter up with the authority concerned for the release of funds for the STCCS. BP Chetri, Commissioner and Secretary for Cooperation and Fisheries, Government of Nagaland expressed happiness for the combined efforts of all concerned for the implementation of STCCS in the state. She also discussed on the hurdles in the implementation process and stated that an amendment to the Cooperative Acts and Rules, which was made earlier, would be placed for further amendment as per directions of the NABARD.

Imkonglemla Longkumer while informing on the background of the STCCS in the state and the status of the MoU stated that further amendment of the Cooperative Societies Act and Rules would be carried out without delay.
