Be prepared to build our nation: NSCN (IM)

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 14 (MExN): Vice President of the NSCN (IM), General (Rtd) Kholi Konyak today called upon the Naga people to be “prepared with all the requisite skill and resources to build our nation.”

In a speech to mark the Nagaland Independence Day, General (Rtd) Kholi Konyak said that “Nagas have managed to prove that no outside force could destroy our political right to live as one people, one nation.”

The only possible danger that can undermine the hard-earned political negotiation between the Government of India and the Nagas represented by the NSCN for lasting settlement is none other than a mistrust and selfishness in the minds of Naga people, he cautioned in his speech, which was read out by Hukavi Yepthomi, NSCN (IM) Kilo Kilonser, “Unless Nagas are ready to realize together the danger of self-destruction among ourselves, we are bound to perish together beyond repairs, for which younger generations will never forgive us,” he added.

“The darkest hour is just before the dawn,” he stated and informed that the peace negotiation at its final stage may be beset with the hardest inimical attacks and temptations to undermine everything.

Solution to the Naga issue, he added “will not be the end in itself; rather it will be just a new beginning for Nagas to build our Nation.”

‘Framework Agreement embraces all issues’: Raising

With regard to the Framework Agreement, Convenor of the NSCN-IM Steering Committee, Rh. Raising said that it is now at the final stage. “We are now at the final stage. We have drafted, they have drafted and exchanged our point of views. We have decided what we have already agreed; now we are in the final stage. Almost 90 percent is completed. We have yet to work on some papers,” replied Raising to queries from the media.

On the content of the Agreement, he summarized it as about the recognition of sovereign right of the Nagas, recognition of the Naga identity, about the territory and integration of the Nagas of the Nagas.

Prodded further on the palpable secrecy surrounding it, he replied, “That is all, I have spoken about it. This framework agreement embraces all issues.”

Earlier during the programme, Raising presenting a brief chronological highlight of the Naga movement had said that the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015 is based on the unique history of the Nagas.

He said that basing on the principle - “Sovereignty lies with the people,” Nagas and India have agreed that sovereignty resides in each. “However, for bringing an honourable solution, peace and progress in the land the two peoples shall co-exist as two entities sharing sovereign power in some areas… To settle our issue with India, an agreement with India is indispensable.”

“This Framework Agreement will be the beginning of a new relationship between India and the Nagas.” For More... http://morungexpress.com/?p=294271&preview=true http://morungexpress.com/?p=294269&preview=true
