Mokokchung, May 5 (MExN): Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture Dr N Benjongliba Aier inaugurated a Dobashi Court at Longchem EAC HQ on May 4. Dr Benjongliba while speaking at the inaugural programme said that Dobashi Courts are the highest courts (Supreme Court) in the Ao traditional society, where different complicated issues which cannot be solved at the village levels are heard and justice dispensed. Therefore, he said that the dobashis should be honest and straight forward while dispensing justice at the Dobashi Court.

Asserting that the system of dispensing justice among the Aos is regarded as just and accepted as fair by people, Dr Benjongliba maintained that this system of dispensing justice is being regarded as one of the best by anthropologists around the world over. He therefore urged the leaders not to lose this legacy of fair and just deliverance of justice. Stating that dispensing justice does not bring about any nuisance, however, he said deliverance of inequitable justice brings nothing, but curse and called upon the DBs to deliver equitability “since the Lord will also judge us on the final day.”

It may be noted that the Longchem (HQ) Dobashi Court was initiated during the time of former Law & Justice Parliamentary Secretary Yitachu and completed during the tenure of the present Parliamentary Secretary for Law & Justice, Dr. Nicky Kire. The Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Dr Benjongliba Aier, on behalf of the whole 30 Alongtaki A/C expressed gratitude to the former and present Parliamentary Secretaries for Law& Justice for making the Longchem DB Court a reality.

The court was inaugurated in the presence of Village Council members from neighboring villages, dobashis including the Head Dobashis of Longchem EAC (HQ) and Mangkolemba sub-division, president of Japukong Senso Mungdang and ADC Mangkolemba.
