Benreului Nkwa Kma conducts career seminar

Kohima, May 16 (MExN): Benreului Nkwa, Kohima organised career guidance seminar on May 14 at Japfü Hotel, Kohima. Around 60 students and parents attended the programme, a press release received here informed.  

The resource persons were Professor Lungsang Zeliang, HoD, Department of Education, Nagaland University; Hiazu Meru, Special Officer to Nagaland Chief Minister; and Rangum Nsarangbe, Controller of Exams, NBSE. Heirangying Lungalang, Additional Secy. (Retd.) also exhorted the gathering.  

Prof. Lungsang spoke about the importance of recognising one’s strengths, weaknesses, skills and resources as these will enable a person to choose the right profession. She said it is important to enjoy one’s job and that there should be scope for growth in one’s profession as career does not only mean earning one’s livelihood for survival. She urged the students to treat all professions with respect and stressed on the importance of translating one’s talents into skills.  

Speaking on the perks and advantages associated with civil services, Hiazu Meru stated that bureaucracy is the backbone that keeps the country functioning. Although thousands apply for civil services exams and the success rate is quite low, he encouraged the students to still try for civil services as it is not impossible if they work hard. With the kind of quality education that students are receiving at present, he said they are better equipped to take up any challenge. He also asked the students to inculcate good values like hard work, discipline and honesty.

Rangum Nsarangbe spoke on the scope and different avenues pertaining to science. He said having a conceptual clarity is very important in studying science. Although many perceive science and mathematics as difficult subjects, he said it is not so if one is interested and can work hard. He also said that students should always learn to motivate themselves and remain positive.  

Heirangying Lungalang stressed on the importance of staying connected to one’s roots. He spoke on the importance of time management and reminded the students that talent alone is not enough and success requires a lot of hard work and discipline.  

Another highlight of the programme was a presentation of the prospects of studying MD at Davao Medical School Foundation in the Philippines by Rev. Dirang Lungalang.
