Newmai News Network Imphal | October 8 Forest-rich Tamenglong distict’s Phailong (Bhalok) village where Amur Falcon comes every year in large number is likely to get declared as “Amur Falcon Village.” This was announced by Forest and Environment, Manipur Chief Secretary Shambu Singh during the concluding day’s function of the 61st Wildlife Week Celebration here yesterday. Singh urged upon people to make their contribution in the government’s efforts to conserve wildlife of the state. The Manipur Forest Department officially declared Bhalok as “Amur Falcon Village” last year. But this time the government is working to get it declared as an ‘Amur Falcon Village’, Singh said. He added that the government was making every effort to achieve it. Amur Falcon, a migratory bird, comes to North-eastern states every year. This bird comes to the region from Siberia crossing a few of the North-eastern states where it stays for a few days. Manipur’s Tamenglong is one such destination of this migratory bird. The Manipur Forest Department, NGOs and bird lovers have deplored large scale hunting and poaching of Amur Falcon in the district.
