Bodo delegates from BTAD gathered for Bathou meet in at Kechakhaiti Than in Kushiabill Village hosted by the local Mech (Bodo) Kachari community.

Kushiabill Village, August 4 (MExN): Over 100 Bodo delegates from the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) in Assam gathered at Kechakhaiti Than in Kushiabill village to participate in a Bathou religious meet hosted by the local Mech (Bodo) Kachari community.
The event, aimed at strengthening spiritual ties and preserving cultural identity, featured rituals, prayers (Sanjwra), cultural songs, and discussions on the relevance of Bathouism in contemporary society. Delegates, adorned in traditional attire and colourful aaronai scarves, represented various regional affiliations, symbolising unity and cultural pride.
At the centre of the ceremony was the sacred Sijou plant, which embodies the five core principles of Bathou—truth, wisdom, peace, compassion, and forgiveness, a press release stated.
Key organisers and community leaders present included Chilarai Mech, President of the Than Committee; Manuraj Basumatari, Vice President of the Than Committee; Babul Mech, Vice President of KTCN; Langkang Mech, Gaon Bura of Kushiabill; Biswajit Mech, Secretary of the Village Council; and Rameswar Mech, an elderly and respected community elder.
Their addresses during the event called upon the younger generation to uphold Bathou traditions and values in daily life. The gathering also served to foster cultural exchange and solidarity among Bodo communities across state lines.
The event concluded with traditional performances, communal feasting, and expressions of gratitude from the host community for the visiting delegates’ commitment to preserving shared heritage.
