DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 16 (MExN): A new book chronicling the contributions of Meghalaya’s unsung freedom fighters during British rule was launched Saturday at Meghalaya House, APJ Abdul Kalam Road, in New Delhi.
Titled Freedom Fighters of Meghalaya during British Rule, the book is authored by Supreme Court advocate and writer Daniel Stone Lyngdoh. It is based on extensive research from both primary and secondary sources, offering a historical account of the region’s resistance against colonial rule.
The launch event featured a keynote address by IPS officer Robin Hibu, Director General of Police and President of Helping Hands NGO. IAS officer Armstrong Pame, Director at the Ministry of Education, and Dr. Teiborlang T. Kharsyntiew, an assistant professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University’s School of International Relations, were special guests.
Following the book’s unveiling, a panel discussion brought together experts from various fields and the literary community to discuss the significance of regional histories in India’s freedom movement.
Lyngdoh said the book aims to shed light on lesser-known figures who played crucial roles in Meghalaya’s resistance against British rule, adding that he hopes it will contribute to a broader understanding of the country’s struggle for independence.
