Mokokchung, July 19 (MExN): The ten-day intensive boxing camp for young children (age 5 to 16 years) got underway at the Multipurpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung today with huge turnout of participants.
“An overwhelming number of participants, 103 of them (75 boys and 28 girls) have registered for the camp,” the Boxing Association Mokokchung (BAM) informed in a press release.
As many could not register on the first day, the BAM, as requested by parents, decided to relax the registration period till July 20, it added.
The camp, being organised by the BAM affiliated to Nagaland Amateur Boxing Association (NABA), under the theme, ‘the future of boxing is in the small gloves’ will conclude on July 29.
Bendangakum, MongsensariLongkumer, Nokingyanger Aier, Akum Imchen and Tongpangnokcha Longkumer are the coaches of the camp and a strong team of technical staff will assist them, the Association said.
Briefing the participants, BAM General Secretary Bendangtemsu Ozukum said that the turnout “more than we expected” and expressed gratitude to the parents and the schools for encouraging the children to attend the camp.
Meanwhile, BAM Advisor, M SupongLongkumer also exhorting the youngsters and encouraged them to be disciplined and punctual during the whole camp.
Abstain from harmful substances and maintain a healthy lifestyle and always keep their trust in God, he added.
MTBA Youth Promoter, Imtimongba invoked God’s guidance and blessings for the whole camp.
As per the BAM, at the end of the camp, participants will be awarded certificates while two most promising players – one boy and one girl – would be identified and given special certificates.
