‘Build strong self-determination against antisocial elements’

Day against Anti-Social Elements held at Mon

Mon, May 25 (MExN): A Day against Anti-Social Elements, jointly organised by the district administration and the NGOs of Mon district, was held on May 23 at the private bus & taxi stand in Mon town. The day was marked by disposal of a large amount of seized consignments worth over Rs.4 lakhs at the site.

Speaking at the function, Deputy Commissioner for Mon, Dinesh Kumar, IAS, urged the gathering to build strong self-determination against anti-social elements which, he said, is affecting every society through the ages. He said that in a day like this, everyone should learn the objective of the program and adopt strong vows to fight against such social evils both for the wellbeing of the individuals as well as for the growth and development of the society.

Calling upon every individual to come forward and fight against drugs and alcohol, the DC maintained that it was a collective challenge which needed the joint effort of all concerned to eliminate this evil from the society. He added that besides hindrance to social economic development, drugs and alcohol are also responsible for the spread of AIDS/HIV. He said that such awareness programs would be initiated and frequent house-to-house joint operations would be launched along with the Police and NGOs immediately and the defaulters dealt with as per the provisions of the law.

Quoting a verse from the Holy Bible – ‘Your body is a temple of God’ – the Superintendent of Police, Mon, Limasenup, IPS, urged the people to live with true Christian ethos and value. Maintaining that police as a law enforcement agency is alert in every check post and has seized huge consignments, he said Police alone cannot solve the problem and sought collective effort to combat antisocial elements. Showing humanitarian concern for the alcoholics and the drug addicts, the SP urged the setting up of a rehabilitation centre at Mon, giving privilege to the addicts to live normal lives again. He also urged drug peddlers to reason how they were spoiling the lives of their fellow brothers besides earning easy income. Pointing out that students are most vulnerable to drugs and alcohol, he advised them to actively involve in sports, music and other social activities.

CMO for Mon, Dr. T Kikon, OC (Excise) Mon, Phuton Konyak, KNSK president Yumah Konyak, and KBBB executive secretary Chemyuh Konyak, also spoke at the function.

Special numbers were also performed by the Ao Baptist Church youth and Sunday Konyak.
