Dimapur, November 29 (MExN): The Business Summit at Nagaland International Trade Expo here, sponsored by the State Bank of India and organized by Business Association of Nagas (BAN), ended with session on ‘Building competent human resources’ where distinguished panelists from education and skill development sectors brainstormed.
Vice Chancellor, North East Christian University, Dr. Darlando Khathing spoke on the importance of tie-ups with industries to make training courses more effective and result oriented, informed a press release from Convener Dr Yan Murry. He also suggested that institutes and universities should come together and complement each other.
Associate Dean (Planning & Dev), National Institute of Technology (NIT), Nagaland, Nzanthung Ngullie said engineering students needed soft skills to be employable. He spoke about NIT’s plan to collaborate with Polytechnics in the state and stressed on the need for involvement of community based organizations in developing human resources.
Managing Director, Beardsell Ltd., Bharat Anumolu spoke on how automation is changing the job market. Citing example of how only one employee is taking care of an entire factory in Germany, he said in India the same factory would have required 50 employees. Further, he said Nagaland’s location is actually an advantage and has the potential to be developed as the Goa of North East keeping in mind the hospitable nature of Nagas. Bharat also said that recycling has tremendous opportunity especially in Dimapur and can generate jobs.
Meanwhile, Coordinator, North East & Left Wing Areas, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Nishtha Vengurlekar said that NSDC is already facilitating many training programs in Nagaland like homestay training by YouthNet, capacity building scheme under DoNER offered by Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency and Nagaland Tool Room & Training Centre. NSDC, she said, is also interested to utilize unused government infrastructure for setting up training institutes.
Executive Member BAN & entrepreneur, Oka Chisho pointed out that Nagaland is full of educated but unemployed people. Stressing on the need for employers to be more considerate towards their employees, Oka said “we need to acknowledge the work of employees.” For better productivity of human resources we need to be customer oriented, he added.
Summing up the discussion, moderator for the session, Advisor BAN Zubeno Mozhui said that the State needs to identify the right skills suitable for its youths. Accreditation of creative skills needs to be initiated so that students can be certified, she stated. Zubeno also stressed on Public Private Partnerships for developing infrastructure and competency of human resources. SWAT analysis of organizations and work places is a must for analyzing core strengths and taking corrective measures, she said.
