DIMAPUR, SEPT 27 (MExN): The cabinet today decided to allow enrolment of students into both government and private schools of Nagaland affiliated to the Nagaland Board of School Education. This was arrived at “in order to make the students eligible to appear HSLC exams under NBSE,” the Chief Minister’s Secretariat said. To be made eligible for this, students are to make their own arrangements.
“The Cabinet decision is a follow up of a meeting of the officers of the School Education, NBSE, Director SCERT and representatives of the NSF, ANSAM, All Nagaland Private Schools Association, Naga Hoho, United Naga Council Manipur and All Private Schools Forum of Manipur on 27th September in the office chamber of Minister, Education to discuss the representations submitted by the NSF, ANSAM and All Private Schools of Manipur,” the Chief Minister’s Press Secretary, VV Abu Metha, said in a release.
He informed that the representations had called for opening of HSLC examination centres in the four predominantly Naga-inhabited districts of Manipur and allowing 4000 students to appear the said examinations under NBSE at the ensuing HSLC Examination 2007.
“Keeping in view the rules and regulations of the NBSE, the consensus opinion of the members was that the opening of the examination centres in other states is beyond the jurisdiction of the NBSE.” However, the cabinet has, “on humanitarian grounds”, decided to allow 4000 affected students to appear HSLC under NBSE. The Education Department is to issue directive to the NBSE to make all necessary arrangements.
