Defending football champs K Basa register first win

Three times football champions Khulazu Basa (K Basa) today took off to a perfect start by registering the first win against Chesezu team on the third day of the ongoing 50th anniversary meet of Chokri Area Games and Sports Association (CAGSA) at Phüsachodü village under Phek district.
Playing in the group A league matches, defending champs Khulazu Basa started their campaign in style defeating Chesezu by 2-0 in the first match of the day.
K Basa managed to pass through the high defensive lines resulting in two goals in the first half through Zhoposa and Kuzoto goal which was enough to secure victory for the team.
In the second match of the day, Kikruma beat North Kikruma by a solitary goal which came through the boots of Punuyo Puro.
With four teams qualifying in group A out of 6, Thenyizu, Kikruma and K Basa have three points each, however Thipuzu, North Kikruma, Chesezu are yet to win a match with a game in hand to decide the fate of the next round.
In group B matches, host team Phüsachodü outclassed Khulazu Bawe by 3-0 in the encounter. Dzüthotsoyi Medeo struck twice in the first quarter and Vevochuyi Puyo-o added the third goal in the second half to finish the game for Phüsachodü team.
Chetheba and Rukizu match ended in a stalemate. Both teams scored a goal each in the first half but failed to secure the lead, sharing a point each by the final whistle.
Host village Phüsachodü leads the group B tally with three points, Chetheba and Rikizu with one point each, while Chikri Nasa are yet to play.
For women's volleyball, Chetheba and North Kikruma have booked their semifinals berth winning two matches respectively. The fate of the other two teams will be decided with Phüsachodü playing against K Bawe on February 4.
For men's basketball match, Thenyizu defeated Khulazu Bawe by 72-45 points to enter the semis for group A. Rukizu beat Khulazu Basa by 53-26 points. Khulazu Basa will play against Kikruma on February 4 and the winner will play against Rukizu in the quarterfinal rounds.
In group B, Chetheba defeated Chesezu by 69-40 points to enter quarterfinal round. They will play against North Kikruma in the next round. While Thipuzu overcame host village Phüsachodü by 36-33 points to enter the semifinal round.
In women basketball match, Thipuzu beat Kikruma by 19-16 points to go through the semis in Group A.
In athletic event, for men 5000 m country race, Cuvoto Medeo finished the track in 15 minute 5 second to get his second gold medal, Necukho Rhakho of Thipuzu in second place. Thejopa Vero, Rolio Mura-o finished third and fourth respectively.
For women 3000 m country race, Mery Chuzho of Thipuzu took the first place finishing at 10 minutes 42 seconds, followed by Vesusalu Vero (Phüsachodü), Kuthonulu Tetseo (Rukizu) and Mhasetalu Medeo (K.Bawe) in second, third and fourth position respectively.
Thipuzu continued to lead the medal tally on the second day with 17 medals (7 gold, 7 silver, 3 bronze), followed by host village Phüsachodü with 18 medals (5 gold, 6 silver, 7 bronze) and Rikizu in third with 6 medals (3 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze).
On February 4, first football match for men will be played between Chikri NASA and Phüsachodü at 7:30 am.
The first basketball (men) match will be played between K. Basa and Kikruma while Phüsachodü will take on K Bawe in the volleyball (women) event.
