Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing 5 Ghaspani-II Assembly Constituency, Zhaleo Rio, today called upon all communities and tribes living in Dimapur to lead the way in peaceful co-existence and harmony.

Terming Dimapur as a ‘mini Nagaland’, the MLA said if different communities and Naga tribes living in the cosmopolitan district can co-exist in harmony, then the other districts too would follow suit. But if the seed of tribalism or communalism is sowed in Dimapur, then these would spread like wildfire in other districts too, Zhaleo said.

Addressing the inauguration programme of Urra Village council hall, the former parliamentary secretary also said tribal interests and other human greed should never be allowed to come in the way of Naga unity.

On the ‘Framework Agreement’ signed between the Government of India and the NSCN (I-M), Zhaleo said it was time for all Nagas, whether overground or the Naga political groups (NPGs), to come together and decide on how to make best use of the agreement as such another opportunity may not come again. He said every Naga is a stakeholder when it comes to the Naga political issue and the public must not leave the serious Naga issue in the hands of the NPGs or a particular faction.

Dwelling on the history of Urra village, Zhaleo said the village like some neighbouring villages was established to rehabilitate surrendered and former Naga national workers. He said presently, Urra village has a big bazaar attracting buyers and sellers alike from neighbouring villages. He encouraged the villagers to take to progressive farming and other livelihood sustenance activities to boost the grassroot economy.

Earlier, the chief guest also unveiled the monolith of the council hall after dedicatory prayer by pastor, CRC Urra village, Kekuowhetuo Keretsü.   Convenor, building committee of the council hall, Salhoulie Nagi in his report on the construction of the council hall expressed gratitude to the RD department for allotment of fund under centrally sponsored scheme.

Secretary, Urra Village Council, Rokuozhalie Rutsa, delivered the welcome address while village elders and invitees also spoke on the occasion.

Vitsore Kense, GB, in his vote of thanks expressed gratitude to the chief guest and all the village council chairmen and GBs of neighbouring villages for gracing the programme. Urra Village council chairman, Kelengulie Yaotsu, chaired the inauguration programme.
