The Mishikito Village Council (MVC) today submitted a counter complaint letter to the Dimapur Deputy Commissioner (DC), in reaction to allegations levelled by the Thilixu Village Council (TVC) against the head GB of Mishikito village, D Kughaho Chopy and one Khekiye D Chopy.
On Wednesday, hundreds of people from Mishikito village gathered at the DC office complex to submit the representation, which called for “dispensation of justice.”
According to the representation signed by Chairman, MVC, L. Atoshe Yeptho, the mentioned two persons were “maliciously dragged” into the May 16 incident, wherein a violent scuffle broke out during the inauguration of a daily market.
It stated that the Mishikito public was responsible for the sequence of events that unfolded on May 16 and not the Head GB and Khekiye D. Chophy. “Therefore, if required, accusation should be levelled against the Mishikito public instead of pointing finger to the wrong persons,” the MVC asserted.
Alleging that a few leaders were misleading the public in order to gain momentum, the MVC said that Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Justice, Er. Picto was a witness to the entire event of May 16.
In this regard, the Mishikito public has appealed the DC to summon the complainant and clarify the matter in the presence of both the parties in order to avert confusion “since arrest of wrong person is against the principle of natural justice.”
In a separate press release to the media, the MVC informed that on May 15, the council had submitted a written request to the East Police Station to send personnel to prevent “possible law & order problem on 16th May 2016 at Mishikito village, sensing the preparation made by a small section of Thilixu villagers to erect an illegal signboard inside the official jurisdiction of Mishikito village (Vide Land Revenue & Survey Office Map LRSO) in connection with the inauguration of a daily market.”
The MVC alleged that on May 16 an “illegal signboard” was found erected during the inaugural function of the said market “despite EAC Chumukedima’s standing Order Vide No. REV-6/2007-08/c/604-607 Dated 14/02/2011 (removal of sign board).”
This, the MVC said led to a commotion, alleging that one Hokheto “grabbed Kughaho Chophy (HD GB Mishikito Village) by the collar and dragged him around, which infuriated the Mishikito public, resulting in a wild momentary scuffle.” The MVC further alleged that there was firing during the incident. “However, the whole incident would have been prevented if the enforcement agency turned up as informed,” the MVC stated.
It further alleged that on May 16 at around 9:00 pm, “unidentified miscreant/s suspected to be from Thilixu Village made an attempt on the life of Kughaho Chophy, HD GB Mishikito Village by firing lethal weapon inside his private residence followed by firing towards the residences of Chairman and Vice Chairman, Mishikito Village.” It claimed that the police personnel from East PS Dimapur reported on the spot and verified the incident.
Meanwhile, regarding the May 28 incident at the residence of Tokishe Achumi, GB of Thilixu Village, the MVS said that the Mishikito Village Council/public “has nothing to do with it since the individual involved acted on his own behalf. Further, the individual involved is not even a resident of Mishikito village.”
