Call to safeguard Nagas ancestral domain & boundaries

Imphal | August 12 : The Naga People’s Organization (NPO), Senapati said it seriously views the situation considering the intensity and indifferent attitude of the  O.Ibobi Singh led State government of Manipur  in handling the prevailing situation in Sadar Hills.
In an 'emergency general body meeting' today at Indoor Stadium, Senapati district H/Q. attended by over 80 (eighty) 'revenue' Naga villages in Senapati district, the NPO federating unit presidents, Senapati District Women Association (SDWA), Senapati District Students Association (SDSA), village chiefs, public leaders, different organizations and village chairmen and secretaries also attended the meeting. The conclave endorsed the "Joint NPO’s Presidential Council and Executive Council’s" decision to safeguard every inch of the Nagas ancestral domain and boundaries.
Strongly re-affirming the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in spirit and letter signed between representatives of Naga organizations UNC, NSF and ANSAM and Manipur government in 1981, 1992, 1996, 1998, the meeting unanimously resolved to endorse it unconditionally, the NPO stated.  It asserted that any attempt to breach such agreements will only culminate divisions among different communities in a diverse state like Manipur. "Most importantly, the MoUs signed on 23rd June, 1998 agreed to form a Cabinet Sub-Committee on Sadar Hills issue and that positive consultation will be made before any decision on the issue," the NPO said.
"Asking the State government to cease partial moves in dealing the volatile situation, the house in strongest term condemns any hidden agendas and communal designs. It also decided to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister to remind the MoUs and demand to safeguard all agreements without any prejudice treatment of the issue. The house minutely discussed and decided to fight collectively against any encroachment or redrawing any artificial demarcation of historical Naga areas in Senapati district," the NPO press communiqué said.
