Campaign against Child Labour gains momentum

DIMAPUR, MARCH 10 (MExN): The children of Community Educational Centre (CEC) who were victims of child labour actively participated in various numbers like skit, songs, choreography, and gave short speeches on the Rights of Children to let the people know about the misery of child labour at a programme organized by the CEC and co-sponsored by World Vision India under the theme “Sponsors’ Meet and Signature Campaign against Child Labour” on March 9 at IMC Hall. The Programme was attended by various social workers, government officials, church leaders, children sponsors and the children of CEC.

Subo Longkumer, the Project Manager of CEC in his speech presented a short documentary about CEC with the campaign against Child Labour as the key note, including the works accomplished during the year 2006 and the plans for the current year which included a 24-hour helpline for Child Labourers. Likewise, in group discussions they discussed that children below the age of 14 should not be exposed to any hard work and should instead be protected and agreed that the eradication of these has to be started with the help of the people itself. The programme concluded with a prayer with signature campaign against child labour by those who attended.
