With only a day left to end the campaigning for the November 7 by-polls in four Assembly constituencies in Manipur, the tempo of political campaigns have gone up.

The campaigning for the by-election is scheduled to end 5:00 pm on Thursday.

The four assembly constituencies where by-polls are to be conducted on November 7 are Wangjing-Tentha and Lilong in Thoubal district, Wangoi in Imphal West and Saitu in Kangpokpi district.

While the by-polls were to be held in five constituencies, Singhat constituency of Churachandpur will not go to poll as the BJP candidate from the constituency was elected uncontested after an independent candidate—the lone rival, withdrew his candidature.

In all, 11 candidates are in the fray in the four constituencies. The Congress has fielded in all the four constituencies while the ruling BJP in three. NPP, a partner of the BJP in the coalition government, has fielded its candidate in one constituency while the remaining are independent candidates.

Among the independent candidates, BJP is backing ex-MLA Abdul Nasir who is contesting the by-poll from Lilong, the seat he vacated before quitting the Congress.
