Some of those who voted YES had this to say:
• There may not be radical changes by 2016 but surely we are on positive note already. Despite of large looming pessimism and selfishness, one can't help notice undying sparks of courage among our people! The answer is Yes. • Yes, because there is no other way. We have reached the bottom of the well and we cannot go down any more. The only way now is upward.
• Yes, if the public are committed to change we can overcome our victim-mentality. We dont want to take any responsibility, we keep blaming everything and anyone for all the problems. We are lazy and we want others to solve our problems. Young entrepreneurs keep blaming illegal taxation and extortion for their failures. But how come the non-Nagas have succeeded and are prospering? We need to work hard and take bold steps. Yes we can bring positive change.
• Yes we have to, otherwise, we are a gone case people with no future.
• Yes, slowly and steadily we are inching our way towards positive change. We are realizing that unless we change we cannot bring transformation in our society. It will take some more time, but at least we are moving in the right direction. • Yes, definitely, we are already seeing a lot of changes taking places in our Naga society. The younger generations are showing and leading the way.
• Yes slowly and steadily we are seeing positive changes taking place. Today, the protest against backdoor appointment, corruption and even against the complacent attitude of the churches are all signs that our society is changing for the better.
• With the help of the media, we can overcome this victim mentality. The local media has a big role to play in educating the people. Instead of only printing articles that are negative, why not publish stories that are positive. Very often only negative stories are considered news, but now positive news should also be front page news. This will help us take positive steps this year.
Some of those who voted NO had this to say:
• No. We Nagas are found of justifying our mistakes and for putting the blame on others. We are not ready to take any responsibility for our own actions.
• The mindset of Naga has over polluted through independent seekers, therefore, it is next to impossible at this juncture.
• No, we like to boast with our friends but when it comes to doing or saying we like to do noting as we the public are also guilty in taking part in one way or the other. like king David who could not rebuke his son for the evil he did, we cannot also overcome over guilty mind so no change there ever.
• No, Because of primitive mindset, from VIP to BPL, and most of them cannot understand their own social problem, difficult to make them understand.
• No. We are stubborn and we are not ready to listen and learn. We dont like to be wrong. We laugh at other people's mistakes, but we repeat them ourselves. We are not ready for positive change.
• Hahahaha! What a Joke. We are to pig-headed that we cannot look beyond our nose. We love blaming others for our woes. We are never wrong, but others are always wrong and are at fault. We enjoy being the victim. This mentality has been our biggest weakness. Unless we can overcome this, there can never be positive change.
Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:
• This is very important issue. We keep criticizing everyone. The older generation, now you cant blame them, their time is gone. I would have thought the present younger generation would be better. But unfortunately, there seems to be so much of bitterness and anger and cynicism that it is not helping. Rather it is only making the situation worse. I think the future generations will do better in this aspect.
• Wow!!! Great question!!! Have you ever seen a pig, that climbed a tree?? Huh? No, never, coz, we are Naga, the warriors and mongers of wealth, fame, bribe, pride, positions, good name, etc, etc. We are not normal human beings (mistakenly created by God, I should say) for the Nagas the word positive + can be used in the term negative -. Like HIV+, cancer+, drug user tested + and so on.
• Our society has become a society of complaining. We are plagued by a culture of complaints and so because we are always criticizing and complaining about something or the other, now, no one wants to take any initiative. I dont know if we will overcome this complaining habit of ours.
• We Nagas are desperate for positive change, but we dont want to change ourselves. We want others to change first. So how can there be positive change. Every year we think it will be different, but it only turns out to be worse than the last.
