Captain (Late) Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous), who breathed his last to the call of duty during Kargil War in 1999, was honoured in a befitting manner today during the observance of Vijay Diwas at Nerhe Phezha, 18 km away from Kohima.
Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year to commemorate the victory of Kargil wherein “our brave soldiers fought valiantly & also made supreme sacrifice for the nation.”
In a programme organized by 9th Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ 5 Sector Assam Rifles and IGAR (N), Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) Major General M S Jaswal, YSM, SM along with other army officers, jawans, villagers, family members, ex-servicemen and students paid a rich tribute and homage to Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse.
Maj. Gen. Jaswal and other dignitaries laid wreath at the memorial site of Neikezhakuo Kenguruse.
Saluting the martyr for his exceptional act of bravery, Major General Jaswal said Neikezhakuo Kenguruse is a source of motivation and inspiration to all personnel of the Armed forces. He thanked the parents of Captain Neikezhakuo, who, he acknowledged, has made not only Nagaland but entire country proud by act of his bravery during Kargil War.
“His story should be an encouragement for the young generation to follow in his footsteps,” he added. Jaswal further informed that Assam Rifles had prepared and distributed 10,000 copies of pamphlet on brief life sketch of Neikezhakuo Kenguruse.
He also stated that the 2nd edition of Capt Kenguruse, MVC All Nagaland Memorial Football tournament will take place soon and asked the interested teams to get ready for the same.
Neiselie Kenguruse, father of Neikezhakuo Kenguruse thanked all ranks and jawans of 9th Assam Rifles for their effort in making the programme a success. MLA Dr. Neiphrezo Keditsu, chairman, Nagaland State Mineral Development Corporation (NSMDC), Kohima Deputy Commissioner Rovilatuo Mor, 10th NAP (IR) Zhadima Commandant Rothihu Tetseo were also present at the function.
